40 hours famine well done 40時間チャレンジ

Yes I have done it! Because for my lovely supporters,
I got the Principal’s Award at school. I was embarrased when I was called in front of many children. It was my first experience.
Thank you for Everyone!!

40 hours famine for Papua New Guinea
“Helping others reach their goals.”

のん2013june 006

Right now, Papua New Guinea has the second worst child death statistic in the Asia-Pacific region where hunger leads to anaemic mums and malnourished children.

Because their death rate is high, the population keeps decreasing in this decade.
Total population 6,858,000
Life expectancy at birth m/f (years) 61/65
Probability of dying under five (per 1 000 live births) 58
Probability of dying between 15 and 60 years m/f (per 1 000 population) 312/235
They are 95% Christian but some people believe strongly in witches.
The Witch-hunt has happened often even this May 2013 for white magic was legal in Papua New Guinea. They have changed the law now.

I decided to do the famine to help raise money to help them; I am glad I can go to school and have enough water and food. It was so hard without sugar and meat for me because I love sweets! When it was cold and raining, I felt like drinking milo..
When I got a sore throat, I felt like having a lolly. When I wanted to eat bread, mom told me it has sugar in it. Unfortunately, I had a terrible cold all last week.
I could not leave the toilet the whole night. I couldn’t eat anything for days.
Then the 40 hours famine was coming. I was eager to eat meat balls, hamburgers, or ham sandwiches. What a shame! I had soup without chicken, had pizza without any meat. It was so cold, but no milo!

I usually have biscuits for morning tea on Sunday, but no biscuits!
But I am very happy and satisfied with this challenge because I had many supporters.
Thank you for helping me to do this challenge, we do not have 40 hours (or 30 hours) famine in Japan. So I was so glad to do the famine for New Zealand. It was the first time for me.
Every supporter is very precious and encouraged me a lot.
Thank you for the librarians, Mary, Ann.S and Sue.
I was hesitant to ask them about donations. Many times I came back to my mom, “No, I can’t ask them. I don’t care. It’s not important. Let’s go home. ”
But they were so kind and helped me to look up information about Papua New Guinea..

Thank you Ann.A for helping me to explain this to others. It worked!
I was told about “Compassion.” It’s not the same as sympathy, empathy, or apathy.
I thought all similar, but apathy. Apathy is like “I don’t care. It’s not important. Was that me??”
Compassion is like “Your suffering is my suffering.” Why? because may be we are all connected to each other, I’ve heard.
Thank you for having the compassion for Papua New Guinea. To my surprise, even before asking, 5 people offered to support this. It’s brilliant to be spontaneous.

Being compassionate is fully to be human. Helping others reach their goals. I like that.
Even if the poor are in some countries far from us, we can care. If someone thought “Oh that was my disaster, Job came to ask me, I can help so they gave a donation.” It’s not my own profit at all. 40 hours famine, World Vision does not have any age limits so you don’t have to be a child
from school. You can do this challenge by yourself,
I hope you liked to support me. I was asked if the theme “No sugar, no meat” was hard. I thought no food (but they can eat lollies and drinks) so that was not for me. I asked people in my blog to have ideas for this 40 hours famine. If you have any questions or any idea for next year? please let me know. Thanks.

It was interesting that I thought Papua New Guinea is not far from us. As I worked on this challenge, I found it’s only 4 hours from Australia. It’s very much closer to Japan than here. One of our lovely supporters, T told me she has a friend from school who works in the government there; I also found one of my supporters used to work as a teacher there!

We would like to pray for them to improve their country with good health, employment, education, clean water,
medical treatment, child care and a healthy society. I saw the screen project for Papua New Guinea. The children walk to the school for 2 hours in the morning. And in the afternoon. They need good shoes and transportation, or more schools.

I heard sometime people use this money the wrong way. Well I will be very sad, but it’s not the reason I don’t help them.
I don’t worry about if this donation goes the wrong way because I have a hero to kick them out.

I pray for you all who supported me and cheered me up so much. This challenge was all through supporters’ help.
I also pray for the people I was not able to give a thank you note. I believe God is always waiting for reward you when you help others, I am sure He gives me rewards, for you too.

May I wish you a happy healthy year with complete care. I believe you will have enough to meet your needs, enough water, hot drinks, enough work, rest, good friends and family to communicate with.

Lots of love and a warm smile to you.
